Have you ever looked at what is in store-bought waffles?! Well, let’s just say that making your own is much better for you, saves money, and tastes amazing! I make large batch and freeze whatever we don’t eat. When it’s time to eat them, I pop them in the toaster to thaw and brown a little more and…. voila! 👌🏼
For the batter
2 cups all-purpose whole wheat flour
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup applesauce (in place of the oil in traditional recipes). I used cinnamon applesauce today… yumm!
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon organic cane sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
*this makes about 15-16 single-serve waffles, so I will sometimes cut it in half if I don’t plan on freezing the extras
I put frozen strawberries and blueberries together, warm them, and add a sprinkle of sugar to make a good glaze.
You can also sprinkle powdered sugar on, or even make “icing” by mixing powdered sugar with a teaspoon of milk… not the healthiest, but still better than store-bought!
